I think we need to talk about sleep.
Let me start this blog by saying that I believe wellness and sickness are on a spectrum. The more things we do that encourage wellness, generally the healthier we will be. Knowing this, I am often hesitant to state that one aspect of health and wellness is more important than any other. With one exception - Sleep.
How to Pick a CrossFit Gym (and CrossFit Coach)
About a year ago my best friend decided to start CrossFit for the very first time. As someone who has been doing CrossFit for over 13 years, and coaching for almost that long, I can’t tell you how excited I was for her. Unfortunately for me, she lives in Wisconsin (and I live in Indiana) so I couldn’t just have her join my gym, but I wanted to help her pick the best box in her area.
My Favorite CrossFit Workouts
Great news guys - A couple of weeks ago I started working full-time out of a CrossFit gym again. As you may know, CrossFit has been an integral part of my life for over a decade now. The past couple of years, however, I have done the bulk of my nutrition and health coaching work from home. Yes, I was still writing programming and doing CrossFit and working with CrossFit athletes (among other athletes), but this was still a significant step back from my usual total-immersion in the sport since 2009. Now that I’m back to spending almost every waking hour in my happiest of places - the gym - I’ve been thinking about some of my absolute favorite CrossFit named and hero workouts (for those of you who don’t know, hero workouts are dedicated to and named after heroes who have fallen in the line of duty). As a lover of lists, I thought I’d try to make a list of my Top 5 Favorite CrossFit workouts. Please feel free to try them, retry them, use them as inspiration, or just tell me what your favorites are!
Vitamin D and Supplementation
I think that most people know that Vitamin D is an important hormone and vitamin, but I don’t think that it is understood just how important it can be, I also think there is a general misunderstanding of just how deficient most of us are. This blog post will focus on sharing some key information about vitamin D, and why I think that almost everyone should supplement with it.
Squats... Why You Should Be Doing Them
My knee has been on my mind a lot lately because I sustained a non-gym-related injury this past June. This injury resulted in a torn meniscus. Unfortunately for all of you, my marketing manager firmly insisted (with love and exasperation) that nobody cares about the epic tale involving either the circumstance of the injury, nor my fruitless efforts to fix it on my own (if you are interested, however, be on the lookout for my impending dramatic screenplay).
If Nothing Changes, Nothing Changes.
We’ve made it, team! This is my final blog in the four-part series addressing the difficulties of finding motivation, making changes, and sticking with your plan even when it gets challenging. Very apropos for this time of year, don’t you think?
Today’s topic is one of those facts that seems so obvious, so inherent, so easy, but is in fact one of the most difficult things for all of us to get square with when pursuing something difficult.
